Report editions matter: Datadog's cloud-cost figures are the 2024 edition, CNCF's 80/89/93% figures are the 2024 survey while the 82% production figure is the January 2026 survey, and DORA's 2024 and 2025 findings are kept separate above because the numbers moved. ITJobsWatch rates are rolling six-month data quoted as of August 2026. We refresh quarterly and replace superseded figures in place; unverifiable numbers — however popular — don't get in.

Where do these DevOps and cloud statistics come from?

Every figure links to the organization that produced it: Flexera's State of the Cloud, the FinOps Foundation's State of FinOps, Google Cloud's DORA research, CNCF's annual survey, Datadog's platform studies, the Uptime Institute's outage analysis, Stack Overflow's developer survey, ITJobsWatch, Veracode and GitGuardian. Nothing is quoted from aggregator blogs, and figures we could not verify at a primary URL were left out.

How often is this statistics page updated?

Quarterly, and whenever a flagship report publishes a new edition: State of FinOps and Flexera land early in the year, DORA in the autumn, CNCF and the Uptime Institute in spring. Each entry keeps its report-edition year so a 2024 figure is never dressed up as a 2026 one, and superseded numbers are replaced in place with the page's last-updated date changed.

Why is wasted cloud spend rising again in 2026?

Flexera's 2026 survey recorded the first rise in reported cloud waste in five years, with 29% of organizations saying waste increased, and AI workloads are the visible driver: GPU capacity is expensive, hard to rightsize, and often provisioned ahead of demand. Visibility tooling has outpaced remediation, so more teams can see waste than have the engineering capacity to remove it.
